In a perfect setting of high alpine mountains and lush green forests and meadows, the medieval town of Gruyères has the most attractive setting and adds to its charm with a lovely cobbled street leading up to the spectacular 13th century castle on a hill. The town and region is famed for its agricultural products especially cheese to which it gives its name. stop for lunch a have a glass of wine and a fondue. The sculptor, Giger, has a museum here and a bar fashioned in his macabre, surreal style. Switzerland at its best, superb in summer and fantastic for winter sports.
