Between Zaragoza and Valencia Albarracin is the former capital of a Moorish kingdom. It is a classic medieval town, tightly winding streets and strong defences. The terracotta buildings are located along a curve of the Guadalaviar River with the stony Sierra de Albarracin rising formidably above the town. The narrow alleyways lead to many historical architectural delights, such as the Alcázar Fortress, the Andador Tower and El Salvador Cathedral, next to the old Episcopal Palace. As always in Spain, the local restaurant food is excellent and there is nothing better than a beer from one of the cafés on the Plaza Mayor.
