Situated on the Neckar River, Heidelberg is home to Germany's oldest university, founded in 1386. Its charm derives from the lovely baroque old town, the Old Bridge and Heidelberg Castle overlooking the town. The ornate city hall building is located on Market Square in the historic Old Town. As with all university cities Heidelberg's streets are full of cafes, bars and restaurants.
