Situated on the Neckar River, Heidelberg is home to Germany's oldest university, founded in 1386. Its charm derives from the lovely baroque old town, the Old Bridge and Heidelberg Castle overlooking the town. The ornate city hall building is located on Market Square in the historic Old Town. As with all university cities Heidelberg's streets are full of cafes, bars and restaurants. Whether you're soaking up the culture amongst the churches and castles or soaking up the hearty German food with a couple of hefty beers, Heidelberg is a delightful place to relax and marvel at living history.
