The capital of Alsace in North-Eastern France, Colmar has a gorgeous, preserved old town centre with many timber-framed buildings and houses built with pink and yellow stone from the Vosges Mountains to the west. The city features many churches and museums. Public spaces display several statues including a version of the Statue of Liberty. A section of the old town contains a canal system and is therefore known as Little Venice. In summer a classic music festival is held. As a centre for Alsatian wine and with a mixture of French and German cuisines, there is always something superb to eat and drink in the local restaurants.
