Tartu-Estonia

The presence of the University of Tartu, founded in 1632, creates a young, vibrant atmosphere with students filling the many bars and cafés. The city's wooden houses and stately buildings emphasise the important historical heritage, further elaborated in the excellent museums. Throughout the city are parks and statues and the Emajõgi River glides serenely through the centre. Tartu includes several historical areas such as the charming Supilinn ('Soup Town'), originally a poor neighbourhood, now a sought-after residential area. The student population ensures a good supply of night clubs, pubs and restaurants.
