Ferrara is a magnificent city, crammed with elegant architecture from the 15 and 16th century, when Ferrara was the seat of the House of d'Este. The broad medieval streets are filled with palaces, museums, churches, theatres, art galleries, restaurants, bars and piazzas. In the very centre is the Castello Estense, built in 1385, surrounded by a moat and still dominating the city. Every way you turn you will find more impressive, imposing Renaissance buildings, although there are plenty of cool, green spaces to relax and enjoy. In the nearby countryside and villages are further gorgeous examples of ancient residences.
