One of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic, Kotor is situated in the stunning Gulf of Kotor amidst impressive the sheer limestone cliffs of Mount Orjen and Luvcen. Together with this beautiful setting, the old port is surrounded by fortifications from the Venetian period. This ancient town has survived plague and earthquakes, the most recent in 1979. A narrow maze of streets connects the many churches and squares and the prominent Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, from the Roman times. The medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO listed site.
