Lying on the banks of a curve the Moselle River, Bernkastel-Kues is a charming wine-growing town and health resort, surrounded by steeply terraced vineyards. The old town is full of history and culture, impressive half-timbered houses line the narrow, winding streets and a market square, Renaissance-style town hall and fountains add to the attraction. The town's most famous wine is the 'Bernkastel Doktor' said to have healing properties. Visit the ruins of Lanshut Castle with magnificent views over the town, or stop for a beer in Karlovy Vary Square, dedicated to the town's twin town in the Czech Republic.
